American Rivers is the only national organization standing up for healthy rivers so our communities can thrive. Through national advocacy, innovative solutions and our growing network of strategic partners, we protect and promote our rivers as valuable assets that are vital to our health, safety and quality of life. Founded in 1973, American Rivers has more than 65,000 members and supporters nationwide, with offices in Washington, DC and the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, Midwest, Southeast, California and Northwest regions. American Rivers is dedicated to restoring the lower Snake River and recovering healthy, fishable wild salmon and steelhead runs. Numerous studies have shown that the surest way to meet these goals is to remove the four dams on the lower Snake River. The people of the Northwest deserve a solution that works for salmon and local communities. We believe the modest benefits of these four dams can be replaced, and that local economies and communities can be protected, and even enhanced. It is time for a regional dialogue that takes an honest look at the costs and benefits of these four dams and explores what a long-term solution would look like.
